Jeff Seemann, 2004 Democratic candidate for US House in Ohio's 16th District, today announced his candidacy for 2006 for the same seat. During a Noon ceremony, Seemann laid out his plans to win next November's election.
"We have 617 days before Election Day in 2006, and we must take advantage of every single day between now and then," Seemann said. "Today is Day One, and the campaign begins right now."
In the 2004 election, Seemann received 101,817 votes, more than any Democratic candidate in the history of Ohio's 16th District. However, a late start to the campaign and a previous lack of name recognition led to defeat at the hands of Representaive Ralph Regula.
"Last year, we entered the race as an unknown and we came away with over 100,000 votes. Those same 100,000 people now know what I stand for and that I will fight for their future. The name recognition problem no longer exists. Now is the time to begin an aggressive campaign to show the people of the 16th District that they CAN do better."
Over the next few weeks, Seemann will launch a new website and a new blog. Fundraising efforts have already begun. Visitors to www.jeff06.com will be treated to regular updates throughout March, leading up to a full-blown website experience in April.
"In 2004, my campaign became the Congressional example on how to reach out to the internet community, and we plan to continue that effort into this new campaign. We will add new twists to internet campaigning like no other campaign has tried before."
In the '04 campaign, Seemann took advantage of his internet experience by inviting the community to manage his campaign for one day in early October. The publicity from the event reached over 100 national newspapers and was reported on overseas.
